Crucial RAM in the MacBook

[THUD]

That was the sound of me hitting the floor when I saw Apple's price for 4GB of RAM for my new MacBook.

[HUH?]

Was the sound I made when I saw how little it cost from Crucial. After a little searching on forums and a careful read of Crucial's return policy I took the plunge and saved myself $900. (Well...I can't really say saved, cause there was no way I was gonna pay Apple's price for that.)

So far, the upgrade from 1GB to 4GB has been ultra smooth sailing. I run a Win2k3 virtual machine under Parallels and it is screaming fast with 1.5GB of dedicated memory to flop around with. Spaces is much smoother, everything is fan-freaking-tastic!

I guess Apple figures if you're willing to spend $2000 on a $600 laptop, why not charge $1000 for $50 worth of RAM?

PS: capcha images should be legible to humans :)

Yeah I just got a MB 2 weeks ago and maxed it out with 4 gigs. It is nice to have so many things running and nothing ever hiccups due to ram. It has taken some time to get used to (coming from windows) but it is working out nicely. I really love it.

p.s. I would advise getting one of those Speck case/covers. The black MB's are IMPOSSIBLE to keep clean.
